In the US, bigger is better; At least that’s the general way of thinking. We are a country with massive skylines, skyscrapers and of course fully equipped casino resorts. But while many associate the word “casino” with Las Vegas, surprisingly, the largest casinos are actually outside of Nevada. In addition, all of the top 5 are tribal casinos that continually prove their power over other casino conglomerates such as MGM Resorts.
So what’s the … question here? Here’s a look at some of the most colossal casino properties in the United States.
# 5 SEMINOLS HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO
Seminole Hard Rock is located in Florida and is the largest casino in the Sunshine State. This musical themed property is owned by the Seminole Tribe and is checked in in Tampa on an area of 245,000 square feet.
The casino, built in 2004, has 5,000 slot machines and 225 table games, 46 of which are poker.
If high-limit slots and puffing on a pack of Turkish Silvers are your vice, look no further. Smoking is permitted in the Seminole Hard Rock. For these non-smokers there is a 26,000 square meter, smoke-free mezzanine. In addition, guests will find slot machines for $ 1,000 per play on their 13,000 square meter gaming area.
Unfortunately, one as yet unavailable amenity is sports betting.
# 4 THUNDER VALLEY CASINO RESORT
Thunder Vally Casino is located 30 miles northeast of Sacramento and is the largest casino in California. The property was built in 2003 and is owned by the United Auburn Indian Community. It has 3,400 slot machines and 125 table games, including poker.
If you’re wondering what 250,000 square feet will get you it can go a long way. The property has a 400-room luxury hotel, 14 restaurants and bars, and an outdoor amphitheater. If you want to shave your golf game a few times, the casino has an 18-hole golf course, Whitney Oaks Golf Club.
Again, sports betting is missing in this casino.
# 3 FOXWOODS RESORT CASINO
If you choose poker, the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut is the place for you. The casino is home to the third largest poker room in the world with 114 tables. Only Commerce Casino and Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles are tracked.
The property, built in 1992, is set on 200 hectares and is 344,000 square meters. It houses 5,500 slot machines and 280 table games. In addition, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s Foxwoods is home to a 2,266-room hotel that ranks 4th nationwide.
Similar to the casinos mentioned earlier, Foxwoods does not have sports betting.
# 2 MOHEGAN SUN
There are cities in Texas with fewer businesses than Mohegan Sun under its roof. The casino, built in 1996, houses 45 restaurants, bars and lounges as well as a 130,000 square meter shopping area.
The casino itself is owned by the Mohegan tribe and is huge. It checks in on 364,000 square meters. It has 6,500 slot machines and 377 table games. The space is home to two large casinos under the same roof that span 240 acres in Uncasville, Connecticut.
If driving isn’t your preferred method and you really are a high roller, helicopter transportation is available between the casino and Manhattan. It is also home to two professional sports teams, the New England Black Wolves (National Lacrosse League) and Connecticut Sun (WNBA).
Similar to its neighbor Foxwoods – no sports betting.
# 1 WINSTAR WORLD CASINO & RESORT
Whoever takes first place is in fact “bigger is better”. The WinStar World Casino & Resort happens to be the largest casino in the US and is located an hour north of Dallas. It’s no surprise that the Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones would partner with WinStar. Since Jones owns the most lucrative NFL franchise, he’s known for his larger-than-life extravagance.)
The Casino in Chackasaw Nation, a beacon in Thackerville, Oklahoma, was built in 2003 and is 400,000 square feet. There are 8,500 slot machines and 155 table games, 55 for poker. The four “playgrounds” each have their own theme: New York, Paris, Beijing and Rio.
It might not have a helipad, but it does have a 3,500-seat global event center that has hosted acts of Blake Shelton, Jerry Seinfeld, and even KISS.
After all, the resort is home to two 18-hole golf courses, which are run by PGA pro-D.A. Designed. Women ring.
But just like all of the casinos on this list, the only amenity you won’t find here is sports betting.
While Nevada is home to several top notch casinos, packing something big on the Las Vegas Strip would take some work. But if you’re traveling to Florida, Connecticut, and Oklahoma, be sure to check out some of the biggest casinos along the way.
